A4L

The Access 4 Learning (A4L) Community is a global non-profit that develops and maintains the SIF (Schools Interoperability Framework) Specification — freely available technical blueprints that enable seamless, secure data exchange across education applications. Built on over 25 years of real-world implementation, SIF defines both the infrastructure (how data travels) and the data model (what data looks like), standardizing modern REST APIs for everything from rostering and IEPs to HR and transportation.

Uniquely, A4L's approach integrates interoperability with data privacy, recognizing that secure data exchange and student data protection are inseparable goals. A4L brings together education agencies, vendors, and other interested organizations across the globe to continuously evolve these standards around its core mission: connecting and securing effective learning ecosystems.
