Removing Friction, Elevating Outcomes

A significant challenge facing modern school districts is managing a fragmented digital ecosystem, with the typical system accessing over 1,300 distinct edtech applications each month. This lack of interoperability—the ability for different software platforms to communicate seamlessly—creates major inefficiencies that directly impact learning. Teachers lose valuable instructional time to manual tasks like student rostering, while students face barriers to accessing resources. To combat this, Edmentum committed to achieving Project Unicorn’s Tier 4 Interoperability Certification, the most rigorous standard for data integration. This solution was designed to create a cohesive digital environment by allowing Edmentum’s platforms to integrate securely with a district's other applications, thereby streamlining access and enabling a smooth, secure exchange of student data to support teaching and learning better.

The implementation of this top-tier interoperability yielded a direct and quantifiable impact on student outcomes. Data from the 2022 school year revealed that integrated school systems enrolled twice as many students in Edmentum programs as their non-integrated counterparts. These students were also more deeply engaged, launching 11.9% more learning activities and completing 25% more diagnostic assessments. The marked increase in completed diagnostics is particularly critical, as it provides educators with the timely data needed to tailor interventions and personalize instruction to meet the individual needs of each student. By removing technological friction, Edmentum’s focus on interoperability not only increased student access and participation but also enhanced the capacity for data-driven instruction, creating a clear pathway toward improved academic achievement.
